The Modlite IR Light heads aim to provide a solution to the specific need of handheld or weapon-mounted IR illumination to supplement available IR or ambient light while using a night vision device.
The IR850 head is throws approximately 1100 mW of IR illumination down range. Modlite has designed this light head to be capable of throwing light in a tight beam pattern that permits illumination of targets at approximately 300 yards, depending on atmospheric conditions. The 850 NM wavelength does produce a slight red signature from the front of the light head that is visible to the naked eye if looking directly at it. The IR850 head is a solid choice for longer range applications with clip on night vision, or visual searching of areas where pointing a weapon mounted laser/illuminator might not be justified.
This light head can be used with a Modlite 18650 body, the smaller 18350 body or the Surefire® M600DF Dual Fuel body. Runtime is about 120 minutes with 18650 batteries and about 50 minutes with the smaller 18350 cells.
